2017

The Institute Library, New Haven, CT

When does a mound become a mountain? When does a drop of rain become an ocean? When does gesture become ceremony? Through discussions centered around self-care, ritual and ceremony, artist Emily Tareila and I curated a tea blend to share at The Institute Library in New Haven, Connecticut. We explored what conditions and intentions elevate daily gestures to gestures of ceremony, and took the act of blending teas as an insight to that question. Participants were given a set of instructions, guiding them through an imagery-based process to connect them to their bodies. They were then instructed to scoop a handful of tea into an envelope and take some home to brew.
